Our first look at the next Disney animated feature, Moana is shaping up to be a fine Thanksgiving release. Johnson's voice is barely recognisable as demigod Maui, Auli’i Cravalho seems like fine casting as the titular Moana, and the animation is looking pretty good too. The Disney Renaissance continues...
I'm still a tad trepidatious about this Disney remake. It doesn't seem all that different to plenty of other 'boy and his ____' tales, and Elliot doesn't seem that different a creature nor that enticing visually. It may still surprise me, but I doubt it.
Are they trying to appeal to the Christian crowd now?
Almost Christmas
Nah, this doesn't seem all that appealing. Pass.
Storks
At last, a full look at the next animated Warner Bros. film! And while some of the character designs are a tad over-exaggerated, and the brief looks at the human family seem to come out of nowhere, the film does at least seem to be quite funny - as evident with sequences involving the Key & Peele wolves and the penguin bunch. Colour me intrigued.
David Brent: Life on the Road
People are excited about this film, and I'm not entirely sure why. I'm sure fans of the original series will be appeased, but there's nothing for new viewers like myself to pounce onto and enjoy. It's just Ricky Gervais doing his thing.
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children
Not much new compared to the first trailer released a few weeks back, but a little look at the villainous Samuel L. Jackson and its Blackpool backdrop does at least show something new. Looks pretty good for a modern Burton film.
A Street Cat Named Bob
Based on a true story, this cat-centric tale looks like a typical heart-warming tale which will likely appeal bigger crowds for cat-related reasons. Or is that just me?
Jack Reacher: Never Go Back
Are film studios ever going to realise that the sequence that this trailer opens on are never as exciting as one expects it to be? But anywho, Reacher looks like a fine Tome Cruise vehicle to do on the side of the Mission: Impossible series. Very standard action-packed thrill ride.
Ouija: Origin of Evil
This is a franchise now. How riveting.
Inferno
Hooray for mistaken identity storylines! An interesting-looking mystery plot featuring Tom Hanks and Felicity Jones makes for a potentially thrilling finale to the Da Vinci Code series.
Mechanic: Resurrection
Pass.
American Pastoral
Intriguing. That's all I can really say about the whole thing.
Keeping Up With the Joneses
A film starring a thin Galifianakis and a Sims-playing Isla Fisher in a film that looks like something we've already seen recently. Can't remember what. Also, this shows the whole film.
Morgan
Another glimpse at this mysterious horror(?) film, we get a tad more information about the whole story and the intriguing Morgan. And it certainly looks rather thrilling. Not quite as fresh and innovative as one would have expected, but still interesting.
Sudden Hemsworth appearance! And with Pine giving off some major Shatner vibes in his performance, Elba being just as menacing as ever, and even Rihanna's official song is coming across strong. What happened to the film we were worried about back in December?
We get a look at this Dreamworks Smurfs clone, following an abysmal teaser released a few months ago, and while it's an improvement there's still a lot lacking here. Plenty of colours and music for the young ones, and Timberlake's track is admittedly overly catchy, but there isn't anything new here.
Sully: Miracle on the Hudson
In 2009, Captain Sullenberger managed to land a plane aboard the Hudson River and save everyone from a watery grave, but in turn was involved in numerous in-house debates about whether or not he should have done so. And with Clint Eastwood directing the film version of his story starring Tom Hanks, it's looking like a remarkable retelling of the surprise news story.
First, it was Michael B. Jordan with Creed; now it's Miles Teller with his own boxing film... except instead of a victorious fighting flick, it's an ambitious fight against a major injury proving that he can surpass it. And I'll be damned if it doesn't look good - Teller is killing it here, and the story looks appealing enough. Bring it, Miles.
